Medical Massage

sore back chiropractor highlands ranch massage acupunctureMedical massage is defined as medically necessary massage, prescribed by a doctor to generate an outcome based on a specific goal for improvement within a specific time frame. Medical massage is utilized as an adjunctive treatment for individuals that have experienced any form of acute trauma. Acute trauma is described as a physical injury caused by a violent or disruptive action (i.e. motor vehicle accident, a slip and fall, surgery, etc.) Acute trauma can also be from psychological injury resulting in emotional shock or emotional alterations. The following are examples of the types of treatment used to address acute trauma:

  • Neuromuscular Re-Education and/or Trigger Point Therapy breaks the stress-tension-stress pain cycle by eliminating trigger points in the body. Specific pressure coerces toxins at the nerve receptor sites increasing flexibility, strength and circulation, while normalizing postural patterns. Releasing trigger points brings an increased range of motion and circulation leading to pain relief in both acute and chronic conditions.
  • Myofascial Release loosens adhesions within the fascia of the musculoskeletal system aiding in freer movement of individual muscles without binding and restrictions.
  • Deep Tissue separates muscles to allow them to work separately and more efficiently. This is achieved through the freeing of adhesions between the individual muscles.
  • Low-Grade Joint Mobilization facilitates faster recovery of soft tissue injuries, which is obtained through the use of muscle energy technique. Our therapists are able to address joint restrictions commonly seen with acute injury.
