Chiropractic Treatment

What is chiropractic?

  • Chiropractic is a form of healthcare that is drugless  and non-surgical.  Instead, chiropractic takes a natural hands-on healing approach.
  • Chiropractic is the science of addressing and correcting the causes of physical problems, rather than just the symptoms.  Consequently, we want to know where you hurt, but more specifically we will find out why you hurt.  Your chiropractic treatment will use natural health methods such as exercise, nutrition, diet and lifestyle modifications to promote wellness.
  • Doctors of chiropractic are physicians who consider man as an integrated being and give special attention to the physiological and biochemical aspects including structural, spinal, musculoskeletal, neurological, vascular, nutritional, emotional and environmental relationships.

What is spinal manipulation?
  • The manipulation (also known as an adjustment) is a high velocity low amplitude thrust given into a specific joint in order to provide therapeutic results. This precise procedure is performed following a thorough examination revealing improper function/mobility/alignment. This will relieve associated muscle tension, nerve irritation and assist healing.

Will the manipulation hurt?
  • The manipulation can sometimes cause some minor discomfort that has been described as a flu-like ache.  The discomfort, if present, may occur following the first or second visit. This develops in only a small percentage of the patients. Overall the manipulation is generally considered painless and relieving.
What are the Doctors’ philosophies & treatment styles?
  • We believe that most causes of pain and/or injury to the musculoskeletal system are attributed to chronic muscular imbalances. This statement applies to all conditions except injuries related to traumatic events (i.e. motor vehicle accidents, slip and fall, etc.). Our body is designed to have very specific strength ratios for proper biomechanical function. However, as we go through our everyday activities we develop only the muscles that we use. Over time, this causes some areas to be stronger than others. Now you have developed a specific condition where unequal forces and stress are acting on your joints. This leads to pain in joints and surrounding tissues, usually following an insignificant event such as sleeping or bending over to tie your shoes.
  • Initially, our treatment addresses the reduction of your initial pain or discomfort. Once the symptoms are under control we evaluate the strength of all the muscles in the area of complaint. Finally, we will implement a strengthening and stretching program specific to your needs to complete your treatment, and to prevent symptoms from reoccurring.
Are services covered by insurance?
  • Chiropractic treatment is covered by your insurance when the care is directed by a physician for a diagnosed medical disorder.  If you choose to have your treatment covered through insurance, a brief examination will be given by Dr. Chad R. Kesner or Dr. Kimberly C. Kesner to determine the type of chiropractic therapy to be implemented in your personal case. The Doctors are providers for: Sloans Lake, AETNA, Humana, United Healthcare, Guardian, QMC3/Concentra, PHCS, MMA, MSA, Rocky Mountain UFCW, Triad, Corvel, Great West, CNIC, CBSA, Beech Street, Destiny Health and One Health Plan.

What will treatment consist of?

  • You will be asked to complete a comprehensive health history, including past health problems, diet, exercise, occupation, and other information of importance.
  • The examination will include palpation, orthopedic and neurological testing, range of motion, and strength evaluation. Additional procedures such as x-rays, blood work and/or urine tests may be performed if determined necessary.
  • In addition to the chiropractic manipulation, we will utilize various physiotherapies such as electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, mechanical traction, moist heat, ice, and massage techniques to treat your condition.  The choice of therapy is based upon your specific condition and the phase of your treatment.
  • There will be some counseling of lifestyle modifications, work modifications and possible dietary and exercise modifications to aid in your recovery and prevention of future problems.
  • You may not receive an adjustment every appointment.  The treatment you will receive will be designed specifically for you based on your symptoms and examination findings.
  • The duration and frequency of treatment depends on your age, weight, lifestyle, nutrition, mechanism of injury, and how long you have had your condition.
